Dumpster Rental in Henderson

An 1850s river settlement on the South Platte, now new subdivisions, the county fairgrounds and farm ground around US 85.

Henderson is named for John D. “Colonel Jack” Henderson, who settled on an island in the South Platte River in 1859, and its post office, opened as Island Station in 1872, took the Henderson name in 1894. A few buildings of the old crossroads remain along Brighton Road north of 120th Avenue, including Henderson Community Church, and the old Henderson Island site is now Adams County’s Riverdale Regional Park & Fairgrounds.

Henderson is unincorporated and is not a Census place, so there is no official population for it. Its 80640 ZIP takes in much more than the old village: mostly single-family subdivisions built since 2000, many of them in parts of Commerce City, Brighton and Thornton that have annexed land here, plus river-bottom farm and industrial ground. It is about 11 miles north of our yard by I-270 and I-76, or E-470 to US 85, and a call before noon often gets a same-day drop.

Do I need a permit in Henderson?

Henderson is not an incorporated town, so county and state rules apply, and between them they keep a container off the road. Colorado law bars anyone from placing “any obstruction whatsoever” on a highway (C.R.S. 43-5-301), and that includes county roads: it is a civil infraction, and the person responsible is also liable for any damage that results. Adams County publishes no permit for placing a dumpster in a county road; road questions go to Adams County Public Works (720-523-6875). US 85 and I-76 are state highways: CDOT issues “Utility and Special Use Permits” for work in state highway right-of-way and publishes nothing about dumpsters, so we keep containers off them entirely. That puts the container on your driveway or lot. If you are in a homeowners association, check its rules on driveway containers before delivery day. And if you are taking a building down, every demolition in Colorado, homes included, needs a demolition approval notice from the state health department (CDPHE), filed at least 10 working days before work starts.

FAQ

Henderson dumpster rental questions

  • Is a permit needed for a dumpster in Henderson?
Unincorporated, so county and state rules apply: Colorado law (C.R.S. 43-5-301) bars any obstruction on a highway, county roads included, and Adams County publishes no permit for a dumpster in a county road (Public Works, 720-523-6875). US 85 and I-76 are state highways, which we keep clear. So the container goes on your driveway or lot.
  • Do you deliver to Henderson?
Yes. Henderson is about 11 miles north of our yard by I-270 and I-76, or E-470 to US 85, and a call before noon often gets a same-day drop.
  • My address says Henderson. Which rules apply?
It depends on where the house is. Parts of the Henderson area have been annexed by Commerce City, Brighton and Thornton, and that city’s rules apply there; in unincorporated Adams County, state law keeps containers off the road. Either way, the driveway is the simple answer.
  • Do you serve the new subdivisions in 80640?
Yes. Most homes there are single-family and built since 2000, so a 15 or 20-yard usually fits the driveway for a move-in, a landscaping job or a garage clean-out. Check your HOA’s rules first.
