Dumpster Rental in Federal Heights

A small, dense city on the bench lands along Federal Boulevard, and the home of Water World.

Federal Heights takes its name from the North Federal Heights Subdivision, platted in 1925 when Federal Boulevard “was just a two-lane dirt road.” The city incorporated in 1940 and covers just 1.78 square miles of “steep rising bench lands” with views from Pikes Peak to Longs Peak, and about 14,000 people live there. It is also home to Water World, the Hyland Hills district’s 70-acre water park, open since 1979.

The housing mix is unusual: 47 percent of homes are manufactured homes, 31 percent are in apartment and other multi-unit buildings, and 19 percent are single-family houses. So most jobs here are smaller boxes, a 10 or 15-yard for a manufactured-home clean-out, a unit turnover or a remodel. City Hall on West 90th Avenue is about 11 miles from our yard, and a call before noon often gets a same-day drop.

Do I need a permit in Federal Heights?

Federal Heights requires a City permit before anyone undertakes “any construction, excavation, or work in the public rights-of-way” (§ 46-24), and its code adds that “trash dumpsters and storage or construction trailers are not placed in the street without specific approval of the director and shall only be allowed in areas that are protected from adjacent traffic and do not create sight distance safety concerns” (§ 46-36). The City’s right-of-way permit application is not published in a form we could read, and we have found no fee or placement conditions for a container, so before any street placement we contact the City for the director’s approval rather than quote a rule. On your own driveway or lot the City publishes no container rule that we have found. The City’s large-item clean-up covers residential and manufactured-home neighborhoods but not apartment, condo or townhome areas, and it does not take concrete, brick, rock or asphalt.

FAQ

Federal Heights dumpster rental questions

  • Is a permit needed for a dumpster in Federal Heights?
Federal Heights code § 46-36: trash dumpsters “are not placed in the street without specific approval of the director,” and only where they are protected from traffic and clear of sight lines. No fee or form we could read, so we contact the City before any street placement; no City rule for your own driveway that we have found.
  • Do you deliver to Federal Heights?
Yes. City Hall is about 11 miles from our yard, and a call before noon often gets a same-day drop.
  • Can you place a dumpster at a manufactured home?
Usually, if there is a firm, level spot on the lot or drive. If your community has its own rules on containers, check with the manager before delivery day; a 10 or 15-yard is the usual size.
  • Does the City’s large-item clean-up cover my apartment or townhome?
No. The City says its large-item clean-up covers residential and manufactured-home neighborhoods, not apartment, condo or townhome areas, and it does not take concrete, brick, rock or asphalt. A 10-yard on the property’s own lot handles most unit clean-outs.
